CLR James in Washington, DC

I am always so interested to learn more about the world-renown Pan-African Marxist C.L.R. James, including the fact that he spent at least 10 years in Washington, DC. I highly recommend this 2019 "C.L.R. James in Washington, DC" panel discussion, which highlights James' work as a professor at the University of the District of Columbia, as well as at other local institutions, from 1969 to 1979. It really reveals how exciting Washington, DC, has been in ways removed from the federal government. This panel was organized by the poet E. Ethelbert Miller and Professor Amanda Huron at UDC. The insights in particular given by Sylvia Hill and Sally Schwartz will be exceedingly interesting to C.L.R. James scholars. Officially, as mentioned in the panel, UDC gave C.L.R. James the title Star Professor, and he truly is a star illuminating thought and action around the world.

C.L.R. James lived in the Chastleton apartments on 16th and R St, NW, which you have likely seen or visited. And the temporary headquarters of the 6th Pan-African Congress was at 1802 Belmont St, NW, in Adams Morgan. The enormous world of Washington, DC.
